4A class Blog

Welcome to 4A's class blog. Here you will see regular updates from our class giving you an insight into the work we get up to.

A Quiet week for 4A with some our pupils off. All the class are closing in on their module 3 work for AQA maths. The pupils will be glad that they can forget about fractions for a while!

In English we have been looking at scams and they way others try to influence our choices from the food we buy to the places we go on holiday.

I other subjects the pupils learnt more about substances and addiction, in RE we are still looking at Sabbat and after some had proven that they could use a washing machine others went on to complete the ironing.

A part of our Friday we tried to make the viral ticking tock kebab. The students were unready for what some unprocessed meat looked like so it’s back to chicken nuggets.

In English this week the whole class has been looking at adverts and how they try to sell us something with the language they use. The class made their own adverts dipping into a thesaurus for inspiration.

In other topic areas pupils and staff have been using the traffic light system to choose healthy food, starting to investigate basic fractions and learning more about looking after and washing clothes. Soon all 4A will be able to wash their own clothes and some even iron.

4A have had a busy week getting back into the work mode. After the Christmas break it was nice to get back to school and see all the pupils. It was noted that some pupils in 4A talk to each other outside of school and there were no fallings out over the holidays.

Our first week has been gathering baselines in our subjects with pupils being asked about their knowledge from topics such as Judaism, local history, taking care of clothes and looking at the language of adverts.

Two of our pupils are continuing with work experiences in local schools and the rest are starting to look at the possible places at college for their next move.

Autumn term summary

It has been an excellent term here in 4A.

We started the year with a few members unsure and hesitant and reluctant to join in lessons and participate in group work. As the weeks have gone by the pupils have developed good rapore and now they all attend and contribute in all areas of the curriculum in which they are all making good progress.

When talking with the pupils they have enjoyed visiting the local community the most. As part of our enterprise linked to Independent living the pupils budgeted and shopped for affordable snack meals to make on Friday afternoons six or seven times. With a menu that changed every week we all enjoyed buying the ingredients with some getting a real bargain! We made £61 profit.

The class collected for Gateshead food bank and with staff donations collected £80 which was spent at Tesco’s where the class handed over the goods that also gave a great photo opportunity.

Two of 4A have had the chance take part in extended work placements. Two young ladies have excelled working at Gibside and Harlow Green primary schools with positive feedback from their staff.
