Curriculum Intent

Curriculum Intent:

Our curriculum is designed to prepare our pupils for adulthood. We want them to feel confident to take their next steps, whether that is the next class, key stage or for their subsequent steps in life after Hill Top.  For some, this may mean a college or a supported apprenticeship placement, for others, it may be preparing them for adulthood, with as much independence as possible. For all our pupils we aim to develop their communication, regulation and independence skills as we believe these are the core skills to help keep our pupils safe and help them live a full life as a successful member of their community.

We offer 3 distinct pathways in school; informal, semi-formal and formal, these pathways allow us to meet the diverse needs of our pupils. Our curriculum is highly differentiated, however, still offers broad and balanced learning opportunities for all pupils. Our curriculum focuses on what is important to our pupils in the context of the community they live in, and we aim to use as many real-life experiences, visits and curriculum opportunities as possible, to bring the curriculum to life. The curriculum design is highly sequenced, so pupils have opportunities to build on their learning in small steps to allow knowledge to stick and move into long term memory. All our pupils have an EHCP and their individual outcomes are at the centre of their own personalised learning journey.

We believe our curriculum allows us to embed our school vision, values and aims into the lives of our pupils, on a daily basis.
