About us...

A9 is a small, nurturing class of seven pupils, focused on supporting young adults as they prepare for the next stage of their educational journey and future adulthood. Our primary aim is to create a calm, regulated, and engaging learning environment where every pupil can thrive, develop confidence, and achieve their individual goals.

A key feature of A9 is our commitment to helping pupils maintain emotional regulation and readiness to learn. We achieve this through personalised sensory diets, regular regulation activities, and close monitoring of each pupil's needs throughout the school day. By understanding and responding to individual sensory and emotional needs, staff are able to provide the right level of support, helping pupils to feel safe, settled, and successful in their learning.

As pupils move towards adulthood, developing independence is at the heart of everything we do. Throughout the week, pupils take part in a wide range of activities designed to build independent living skills, including personal care, meal preparation, money management, travel awareness, and decision-making. These opportunities help pupils gain the practical skills and confidence needed for greater independence in their daily lives.

Community engagement is also a significant part of the A9 curriculum. Pupils regularly access local facilities and participate in meaningful community-based activities, allowing them to practise social communication, develop confidence in unfamiliar settings, and build an understanding of the wider world around them. These experiences help prepare pupils for future education, training, employment, and community participation.

The A9 team consists of Mr Holmes, Mrs Hall, Mrs Bloomfield, and Mr Thompson, who work closely together to provide a consistent, supportive, and positive learning environment. The staff team is committed to building strong relationships with pupils and their families, ensuring that every young person receives personalised support tailored to their individual strengths, interests, and aspirations. Through a collaborative approach, the team helps pupils develop confidence, resilience, and the skills they need to achieve their goals.
