Italian Day

Guess who I am going to be

As part of our International Award programme of study and events we held an Italian Day in school on Friday 18 May 2007. The highlight of our Italian Day was the "Cantare" concert. Parents, carers and friends were welcome to attend the concert which started at 1.30pm and lasted an hour.

Mrs Thompson and Mr G Griffiths, a Nationally renowned Vocal Coach & Musical Director were accompanied by Mr Treherne, MBE, Head of the Music service in Gateshead on piano and our own Mr F Wheatley on guitar. There were also Italian songs sung by a group of staff and by the pupils.

Pupils looked at words we use that originate from Italian such as spaghetti, pizza, motto, and also learning numbers in Italian. Brenda, our school cook created an Italian menu for pupils and staff at lunchtime before our afternoon concert.

If you are interested in joining Sing Live or just finding out more about the choir you can look at their web site and if you are sharp-eyed you might see a photo of our very own, Mrs Judith Thompson. http://www.singliveuk.com/

Great News Read All About It

Hill Top have been awarded a Bronze Award in the The Journal NEDL Annual School Newspaper Awards Ceremony held at St. James' Park.

Seven pupils attended the ceremony with Mrs Gifford and Mrs McCarthy held on Monday 18th July at Newcastle United's ground. The pupils met Steve and Karen from Galaxy Radio who presented them with a framed certificate and a cheque for £150 and £30 in book tokens. We also enjoyed a slap up lunch in the Keilder Suite. This is the second year the school has entered and on both occasions we have received awards. We are very proud of our newsletter which is printed termly in school and distributed free to pupils and friends of Hill Top. It goes to places as far away as China and Russia.
