Hill Top and the RSC at Theatre Royal
The Expressive Arts group and two members of the Hill Top Singing group performed their Romeo and Juliet cameo performance live on stage at the Theatre Royal in Newcastle in front of members of the Royal Shakespeare Company.
Mrs Thompson was invited to take part in the event again after last year's successful performance of Twelfth Night. She wrote the adaptation, which had to include Shakespearian language, with a combination of chant, symbolic mime, songs and speeches. The dress rehearsal in school was attended by an artistic director from the RSC and her verdict was, "You do not have to change a thing. I was warned I would need to take a handkerchief to Hill Top as it would be amazing and they were right."
The actual performance was spectacular. The three girls sang beautifully and the whole theatre joined in with the final scene and song, "Love is all you need." The event was attended by a smal group of schools in the North East region. Two others came from Gateshead, but there were schools from other LEA's in the region.
On the day they also had to do an impromptu performance and if you can imagine Inspector Clouseau meets Romeo and Juliet you have a glimpse into one of Hill Top's pieces. If you want to see more, contact school and ask about obtaining a copy of the DVD. All money raised will go to the PTFA of Hill Top School.
