Merry Christmas
We wish all staff, pupils, friends of Hill Top School and their families a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
We would like to thank everyone who helped, donated to and/or attended the Christmas Fayre. We raised almost £1,400 which will be used to provide equipment for school, help towards the upkeep and purchase of the school minibuses and trips.
Some of our Christmas activities include Christmas dinner on Wednesday 20th December. This is a fun day in school and party clothes can be worn.
Some pupils have been to see performances and pantomimes and the singing group sang Christmas carols outside Asda and managed to raise quite a bit of money for school funds. Well done!
Our Christmas Carol service on Thursday 14th December was well attended by parents, friends and carers and was our present to you all.

Recycool recycling
The ICT department at Hill Top School have been recycling ink cartridges, toner cartridges and mobile phones through recycool. We have raised enough money to buy a digital camera and install an interactive whiteboard.
If you buy a new mobile phone for Christmas or at anytime of year, please send in your old one to school and include your battery and charger if you have it. We also accept recycled ink cartridges and toner cartridges. Recycool are a company which allows registered charities, like our PTFA to collect these items and then they pay us according to a fixed rate for each type of phone or cartridge.
We can arrange pick up of larger quantities of cartridge if you can donate to our school from your workplace.

Rowing Challenge Taken Onboard!
Mr Dawson has successfully motivated the whole school to take up the rowing challenge. He set a challenge of 2000m by the end of last half term and increased the new challenge to 5000m by the end of Autumn term. Everyone including teachers, support staff, cleaners and pupils have completed the challenge.
Mr Dawson has set up the rowing challenge in the old French room, which now houses the rowing machines and the other fitness equipment.

Hill Top and the RSC at Theatre Royal
The Expressive Arts group and two members of the Hill Top Singing group performed their Romeo and Juliet cameo performance live on stage at the Theatre Royal in Newcastle in front of members of the Royal Shakespeare Company.
Mrs Thompson was invited to take part in the event again after last year's successful performance of Twelfth Night. She wrote the adaptation, which had to include Shakespearian language, with a combination of chant, symbolic mime, songs and speeches. The dress rehearsal in school was attended by an artistic director from the RSC and her verdict was, "You do not have to change a thing. I was warned I would need to take a handkerchief to Hill Top as it would be amazing and they were right."
The actual performance was spectacular. The three girls sang beautifully and the whole theatre joined in with the final scene and song, "Love is all you need." The event was attended by a smal group of schools in the North East region. Two others came from Gateshead, but there were schools from other LEA's in the region.
On the day they also had to do an impromptu performance and if you can imagine Inspector Clouseau meets Romeo and Juliet you have a glimpse into one of Hill Top's pieces. If you want to see more, contact school and ask about obtaining a copy of the DVD. All money raised will go to the PTFA of Hill Top School.
